The atmosphere here is alive and welcoming, fostering a sense of community that resonates strongly with patrons. Each visit feels like a new adventure as the menu changes daily, offering at least one vegan dish alongside a delightful array of sides such as smashed carrots and surplus salad. There's something fundamentally magical about the way each dish is prepared with care and creativity, allowing guests to experience flavors that are fresh, innovative, and beautifully presented.

Whether it’s the Turmeric Latte Banana Cake or a comforting sausage and tomato pasta bake, every dish is crafted to ignite the senses. I personally enjoyed their banana bread with espresso cream—a delightful ending to a wholesome meal that bursts with flavor. As Sahil Budhwani aptly puts it, this café is a blend of lively atmosphere and culinary adventure that you won’t want to miss.

“ Really nice community cafe, with ethos to recycle food waste from the supermarkets and other businesses. Menu changes daily and at least one vegan dish. They seem to understand allergies here. service v prompt and pleasant ”
“ Highly recommend. Absolutely amazing place, very earthy and warm! I tried their Turmeric Latte Banana Cake and couscous salad. All 5/5 ”
“ A HUGE thank you to Jess, Anna & everyone at The Magic Hat Cafe for hosting our first birthday event celebratiing Together We Rise Up Community! From the seemless organisation, room setup to the collaborative spirit from everyone involved and the AMAZING food!! We were truly blown away! As were all of our guests! If you're looking for an event space with warmth, creativity, thoughtful service & top notch catering (plus you'e supporting food sustainability), I would highly recommend The Magic Hat Cafe, venue & team. Thanks so much! ”
“ one of my favourite places! the food is always amazing and i love trying the new menu options every time i go. the staff is always so warm and helpful, and the environment is so sensory friendly and nice for relaxing-there is nice music playing but you can easily still have a conversation! the prices are affordable as well which i really appreciate as eating in town is normally not something i can afford to do! i really love their mission and it’s nice to be able to support a business that is doing good in the community today (pictured) they were serving a sausage and tomato pasta bake and they kindly added extra fresh chillies for us! we had the banana bread with espresso cream and citrus cake with strawberry for dessert, which were both incredible!! highly highly recommend whether you’re a local or just visiting newcastle for the day, they’re really not one to miss ”
“ What an amazing place. Nestled in a corner of the city centre. I found this beautiful cafe. Lively atmosphere and delightful music. They are helping with reducing food waste. Which is a noble cause. However the prices are still of a normal cafe. Menu changes all the time which is adventurous. You never know what's coming up. I sat by the large windows and enjoyed an Americanco . Plenty of seating of different sizes. Neat and clean with a warm feeling. Mix of crowd uni students and retired folks. Definitely a visit when in the city centre. Bring your friends family or come by your self. Friendly staff ”
“ A fantastic find this cafe was! We came here after learning about the ethos this cafe has with their adaptive menu that fits around the food they have on the day to combat food waste! The cafe, nestled away just towards the outskirts of Town was a great find! From its rustic interior to the team of staff that work there. The food was of a great quality and we'd definitely be coming back! It would be great to see more of this in the future given just how much food waste there is! ”
“ Attended a fantastic event recently at the Magic Hat! I've enjoyed their food that has been catered to other locations many times, however this was the first time I was fortunate to visit the space in person. What a unique restaurant, it's fresh, clean and so inclusive. I love their mission, and what they are doing to bring healthy food, and reducing food waste into everyday consciousness. They have an awesome team, and I'm so inspired by the leadership of Jess, their founder. Well done! ”
“ Shockingly cheap, for great quality. Great atmosphere too. I took my mam here, she had wanted to go to Fenwick’s but I convinced her to try something new. She loved it and said it was the best food she’d had in months. She had the mushroom on toast and I had the Turkish eggs. Coffee was great too. I’ll be back next time I’m in Newcastle and I’ll be telling my friends about it, a real hidden treasure. ”
